Baseball Tasmania News Upcoming Season Information

Unfortunately for us last week, a decision to stay off the playing surface to allow it to recover from the recent rains and completed football season meant that only an abbreviated open day was held.  We did see some new faces though, which was brilliant.

We will be holding another open day this Sunday 19th September 2010 from 10am to 12pm at Prince of Wales Bay (see "Where we play" link on the right) and we invite everyone to attend (both past and present players) to both shake off cobwebs and to help finalise team rosters for the upcoming season.

First Game

The first game of the season will be on Sunday 3rd October 2010, with a grand final replay between the Whitesox and Blue Jays kicking off at 10:30am and then the Athletics and Red Sox will take on each other at 1:00pm.  It'll be a great day and we invite people to drop by to have a look, grab something from the BBQ and have some fun.

Scheduling

The schedule is primarily a twilight schedule, with the majority of games played after work on either a Wednesday or Thursday night.  We start the season with two Sunday rounds until daylight savings kicks in fully, and then we go into the evening games.  We do, however, play a Sunday game once a month throughout the season.  This allows us to run an 18 round season with a 3 week final series.

Fees

At present, we're estimating that fees for the 2010/2011 will remain fixed at the same price as last season (which is $170 for adults, $150 for under 18s).  This is the only cost to play for the season.  We do not charge match or ball fees.

Equipment

The league provides all equipment except for gloves.  This includes balls, batting helmets, bats and catchers gear if needed.  If you need or want new equipment, we highly recommend either Ausport (mention you're from Baseball Tasmania for a possible discount) or Fielder's Choice.

Can't Make The Open Days?

If you can't make the open days, can you please contact the secretary (details in the Contact Us section) and let us know if you're returning or want to start playing.  This way we can ensure teams get and have the players needed to field a team each week.
