Baseball Tasmania

The 2009/2010 season was a good one for Baseball Tasmania, with all four teams competing well and the league being left in a strong position. To ensure that we build on last season's success, the 2010 Annual General Meeting will be held at 5:00pm Sunday 18th July 2010 upstairs at the the New Sydney Hotel on Bathurst St.

Last year, the league started on the back foot as no-one attended the AGM and the committee could not be ratified, leaving us very little time initially to get the season started. So we are asking that all 2009/2010 financial members make the effort to come to the AGM so as a legally standing committee can be voted in and ratified and the work to prepare for the 2010/2011 season can begin.

While we encourage and welcome anyone with the willingness to volunteer their time on the committee, we will not force anyone into a committee role who does not want to fill one. But we need the membership on board to ensure you have a league to play in next season and committee setup to run it.

The AGM will run from 5:00 to 5:30pm in the upstairs conference room at the New Sydney Hotel. We would then like to see members and their families stick around afterwards for a counter meal. As we will be looking at sponsorship options next season, a show of patronage at the AGM could very well put us in good stead with the New Sydney Hotel.

We ask to please spend five minutes contacting secretary Wade Pearce by calling or SMSing 0402 860 986 or dropping an e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it indicating whether or not you'll be attending the AGM and how many are sticking around for dinner afterwards.

Just remember, we have a dedicated group of people willing to run the league but we need you to ensure that we can do it.

Dave Edwards will be running training session every second Sunday at 10:00AM at the Prince of Wales Reserve (Softball Park), across the highway from Bunnings in Derwent Park.

The next training session will be the 11th of July 2010 and every second Sunday after that.  Anybody interested is welcome to attend.

After what can only be described as a comedy of miscommunication errors, the 2009/2010 Grand Final finally got underway on Sunday 2 hours after the scheduled start time.

The end result was a convincing 12-6 victory to the Whitesox, capturing them their third straight premiership.  Congratulations.

A big thankyou to all participants in this season and we look forward to your return for the 2010/2011 season.

Please place Sunday 18th July 2010 in your calendar as this will be the date of the Baseball Tasmania AGM to be held upstairs at the New Sydney Hotel on Bathurst Street.  We ask all current members to attend a short 20-30 minute AGM then invite them to stick around and have a meal afterwards.  Family members more than welcome.  More news in the near future.

Congratulations to the Blue Jays who have captured the 2009/2010 minor premiership after defeating the Whitesox 4-1 and moving 10 points clear on top of the ladder.  The 10 point lead can't be overcome by the other teams in the final two games of the season.

There are just two regular season games left before we enter the finals and while the Blue Jays and Red Sox ladder positions are set, the White Sox and Athletics are only 4 points apart and will be fighting for the double chance in the 2nd Semi Final against the Blue Jays.
